I'm basically in the process of applying for my US citizenship and the I was informed that i need to have a selective number in order to continue with my application, I've done my research and found that the US has a mandatory selective service signup for mails 18 thru 27 and im also appauld to how little other males my age know of this, I'm currently 21 years old and i just recently foundout. What i want to know is if there is no other way to continue with the process other then signing up for the selective service. Any other options that I'am not aware of will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  1. No other options. In order to get citizenship, you must register with the selective service if you are of the proper age.

It is the law that all males between the ages of 18-27 be registered for the selective services. This includes citizens, legal residents and illegal aliens.

If you want the privilege of being a citizen of this great country, you also have to be willing to defend it.

  2. you have to signup at www.sss.gov

you could be thrown in jail if you don't sign up, but no one has been thrown in jail for over +20 years.

  3. Why wouldnt you want to sign up?What is the penalty for not registering?

If you do not register, you could be prosecuted and fined up to $250,000 and/or be put in jail for up to five years. Registration is also a requirement to qualify for Federal student aid, job training benefits, and most Federal employment. Even illegal immigrants and refugees have to sign up. Welcome to America .
