Before you take an army pt test you have to sign a paper saying you are ready to take it. What happens if you don't sign it and tell them you're not ready?

  1. looks like carolin needs a PT test.  just sayin'.......

  2. Yes you have to take it 2 times per year for records purposes. If you can't take it, it better be because of a medical issue with a DR. note exempting you from that PRT cycle. If you don't pass you are only allowed so many times before you are kicked out. If you don't pass there are lots of things that could happen like having a promotion denied, you could be disqualilfied from taking a promotion exam based on a PRT failure, you could be placed on a command exercise program, etc. It's not a joke, it's serious business.

Let me add - the 2 times a year is for records purposes but you may take the test on a regular basis based on your command's PT policies.

EDIT: "The most they can do is give me a counseling statement and tell me to do it next month right??"

NOPE. The PRT must be completed within the allotted dates set by the Service Branch. Makeups are only allowed for extenuating circumstances. IE. deployed in a combat zone and in direct combat. Obviously taking the PRT is not as important in that instance. If you feel you aren't ready you should go to the DR and see what they say. You better get it done early enough too because you can't claim you have a DR appt to see what they say if the test is already in it's timeframe to be taken.

    Copy/paste

Soldiers who fail any portion of the APFT must re-take the entire APFT within three months (unless they have an approved medical profile). Soldiers who fail the APFT are flagged in accordance with Army Regulation 600-8-2, Suspension of Favorable Personnel Actions. Individuals who are flagged for APFT failure are not eligibile for promotion, reenlistment or enlistment extension.

  3. Then you aren't joining the Army until you are.  Pure and simple.

  4. lol, you take a pt test whenever your unit tells you that they are taking one, your not allowed to sign a paper and will be excused, if you fail they will make you take another at a later time, and possibly put you on remidial pt....

  5. You can be given a diagnositc APFT the day you come off of profile.  In fact I required all soldiers coming off of a long term profile to be given a diagnostic APFT so we would know what kind of shape they were in and to help them prepare for a 'for record' APFT.  Once you come off of profile you will have a maximum of 90 days to prepare yourself for a 'for record' APFT.

However - even if you were on profile for your feet - there is no reason you should not have taken the APFT and performed an alternate aerobic event.  Why didn't you?
