Do you have to update your Comcast digital cable Dvr Box?

I have a Motorola DCT 3412 I Comcast HD DVR digital cable box and it's just so laggy and slow sometimes it pisses me off. Not to mention that it is pretty loud and buzzes constantly. My question is do you have to somehow download updates somewhere for the box like new firmware or something? Does it do it automatically or do I have to do it somewhere in the interface etc.? Also is there a newer model available, and will comcast give it to me for free? Thanks.

  1. It is a piece of junk. Comcast periodically downloads updates automatically, but it doesn't help.

    I've been hearing about a new model for a year now, but nothing real so far.

    Buzzing sounds bad, mine doesn't do that. Call comcast, they will usually swap it out.
