Do you have to use ilink with a sony camcorder or will any firewire cable do?

I think you can use either - as 'I link' is just sony's own brand of Firewire - as long as the standard for both is IEEE 1394 then it will work.

So long as you have the right number of pins at each end, any firewire cable will do.

You can use Firewire cable of any make to sony and I promise it will work .I-link is the name created by Sony (to confuse the coustomers-like you- and make them buy costly selling sony accessories)
