i'm going to an art school next year, and it offers scholarships to several colleges, but i cannot afford to go to just any college, so i was planning on the first 2 years going to a local community college (even though my GPA so far is a 3.9) and then trasnfer after the second year to a college for art.

if i were to get an art scholarship, can a use it my third year, rather than my first?

  1. yes, you use them your first year, they don't last forever. Unless, you have one that you can renew if you keep gettin good grades.

  2. The answer depends on the scholarship, but I will tell you that most scholarships are granted for a particular academic year. Among other things, this allows the scholarship organization to budget their money effectively, and help the greatest possible number of students.

If they award you a scholarship and it sits unused for 2 years, the scholarship granting group could have awarded the money to another deserving student, and considered you for a scholarship in year three.

So - my best advice is to contact the art school and ask. Only they can tell you if they're willing to hold onto your money for a couple of years.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your art career!
