  1. It all depends on your load and what your carrying with you such as licensed plants and flowers or especially large sums of money never have strapped up money such as 10,000.00 with a bank strap alwas keep half and your spouse keep half when crossing that makes it leagle .Happy trip and enjoy .

  2. If you have ever been in a foreign country, then you KNOW already that you ALWAYS have to stand in a line at Customs and Immigration... coming, going or just passing through

  3. It is usually very quick, if at all, if you are traveling from the states.

  4. Coming from the US mainland, you get off the plane via stairs (no jetway), walk across the tarmac into the terminal (don't forget to get your free rum punch, just inside the terminal) then you go directly to baggage claim, NO customs on the inbound unless your arriving from a non-US location.

  5. from NYC to the VI no Customs just get off the plane go to baggage claim just like anywhere else.

from the VI outbound back to the  mainland...even though the US VI is the United States Virgin Islands you DO go through Customs and Immigration. The reason is we are technically outside the US Customs zone......that's why cigs are 18.00 a carton and rum 10.00 a bottle and watches dirt cheap........

and so you have to go first through Immigration and then Customs.

It's a small airport and too many flights.....especially mid afternoon....are scheduled for the same time so it can take over an hour to get through the lines. YOU HAVE TO CHECK IN with your airline at least 1 1/2 hours before hand or your seat is canceled.

If you are an American you don't need a passport, just a state issued i.d.
