Do you have to wear fancy clothes on carnival?

i am going in six days and they say u have to wear fancy clothes but like wut is suitable?

You will see everything from little black dresses to long gowns and dark suits to tuxs on the formal nights on Carnival.

A short cocktail dress is fine for a lady.

A shirt and tie is fine for a guy, a jacket if he has one.

There will be many picture opportunities on formal night.

You don't have to eat in the dining room on the formal nights if you don't like to dress up.

Enjoy the buffet dinner on those nights instead of going to the main dining room.

You don't have to stay dressed up after dinner.  We have often changed back into our casual clothes after dinner to enjoy the rest of the evening.

You only have to wear fancy clothes for the formal or captain's dinner. You're not even forced to go to the dinner in the dining room that night, you can just go to the buffet if you'd rather not dress up. What is suitable for this night would be a dress, you don't have to go overboard with a cocktail dress although a lot of people do wear them. Just a sundress would even be fine. They're not strict at all, just wearing something formal is just showing respect.  For the other nights, you don't have to wear a dress, just something casual, but nice. No jeans, tshirts, clothes like that. Again, they're not strict at all but I think it's disrespectful when people look like slobs.

No. . . only if you're going to the Captain's dinner which is usually formal and going to have pictures taken.  You can dress business casual if you're eating in the dining room.  Good Luck!

HAHA NO.  You should have seen what some of the people on my last cruise were wearing (Carnival Destiny).  It was a mixed bag, though.  I'd recommend dressing appropriately just to avoid looking sleazy.
