I don't wear shin guards and I've been playing for 10 years.....instead I wear sliding pads which are like shin guards but a lot softer and are meant to protect you when you slide (because it hurts if you slide with nothing on: HUGE scrapes or cuts).

no you dont.  Just if your the catcher you have to .  Other than that its a personal choice.

No I played softball for 10 years and we don't wear shin guards (unless you are the catcher) but when you get older and start sliding, a lot of girls wear sliding pads so you don't get scrapes on your leg when you slide. =)

not unless you're a catcher, but i recommend sliders (sliding shorts), a slideguard (to protect your knee) and ankle protectors. trust me, if there's one thing you don't want, it's to be hit in the ankle with a wild pitch and bruise or break your ankle bone. i did that this year, and it's not pretty.
