  1. Qualifying is hard... first round, 18 holes.  each site usually takes top 6, sometimes lower.  Second round, 36 holes; from here they take even less.  If you survive these 2 rounds YOU'RE IN!


  2. No - it is open to anyone who can qualify.  First you need a handicap index of 1.4 or lower to get into a local qualifier.  If you make it out of the local 18 hole qualifier, then you must go to a 36 hole sectional qualifier and if you make it through that you can go to the Open.

  3. No, they have a number of qualifying events around the US for those wanting to get into the US Open - remember the movie Tin Cup?

  4. No. In fact any amateur with a 2 or less can go thru qualifying and get in.

  5. There are several parameters for  getting to qualfy for the US Open. There are exemptions for winning prior US Opens, British Opens, finishing high on the money winnings,winners in Japan, Australia, Asia ,European tour, Canadien tour and other qualifiers where the top few are eligible to compete.
