  1. I have toads and frogs.

I have a 700-gallon garden pond with a waterfall that I built two years ago.  There is a little rock stream just before the waterfall that the birds drink from.  There is also a big fat green toad that sits in the rock stream with just his eyes showing.  I haven't managed to get a picture of him (her?) yet.

I also have turtles.  They live under my deck, which is near the pond, and eat mulberries from a wild mulberry tree on the property.  After one of them got into the pond and couldn't get out, I put milk crates with stepping stones in the pond to allow the turtles easy access.  So far they haven't eaten any of my goldfish, but they do eat my water lilies sometimes.

I also have snakes around my pond.  When I find one, a pick it up and take it behind my property into the woods and turn it loose.  I don't mind snakes, but I don't want to get bitten, even by a nonvenomous one.

I have zillions of dragonflies and those big black-and-yellow spiders.

I have three bird feeders and two suet feeders by my pond, so I have lots of birds.  There's wild honeysuckle near the pond where some of the birds build nests.

I have a squirrel feeder at the back part of my yard.  If you give squirrels their own food source, they won't bother your bird feeders and vegetable plants.

I've lived at my current house (on one acre of land) about 3 years now, and it's a Certified Wildlife Habitat http://www.nwf.org/backyard/.  This is a fun thing to do with your yard; you can even buy a sign stating you're certified.

I don't have toad houses; I've never heard of them.  I'm going to look them up and see if they would be useful in my yard!

  2. No. But I have crickets. Thousands of Crickets. So send some of your toads over to my garden in sun city

and let them feast on my crickets.  Maybe I could finally get a good night's sleep!

    :-)

  3. we have 2 toad houses. we have 2 ponds. 10 toads. and yes they help the garden by killing all the insects.

  4. the word toads freaks me out a little bit.
