I'm considering starting my own blog (finally) so I need some advice on which sites are the best. Also, if you do, how regularly do you update yours? And how do you know that other people will find your blog interesting...

  1. Popular, free blogging services:

    Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com ), Wordpress (http://wordpress.com ) and Livejournal (http://livejournal.com ).

I use Yahoo! 360 to blog (http://360.yahoo.com/kee_y360 ), although currently it has a lot of glitches including not being able to invite friends. It is a free social-networking service that features a blog. Since you have a Yahoo ID, you can probably set one up too. They'll be transitioning to a new system in the 2nd half of 2008.

While logged into a yahoo service (mail, answers, whatever), type 360.yahoo.com in your web browser's address field (or just type 360 in a Yahoo! toolbar). Start creating your 360 space from there. Click the BIG YELLOW "Get Started" BUTTON on the far right section of that page. Click the "Yahoo! 360 Home" link on the upper right corner of the page to enter the space. For more details on how to set up elements of your 360 space, see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/ . Keep in mind that 360 is a beta service, so there are many bugs (for example, many people have invitation problems). If you have problems, check the Answers area or click on my avatar and scroll down to click on my "Starred Questions" tab.

See the 360 team post on "How to blog":

    Search for 360 blogs: http://360.yahoo.com/search.html .

    A good blog to me:

    1) Mainly, is one that is authentic. Your thoughts, your creative background, your interests - there's only one "you," so be expressive! I know, that's corny, but it's true.

    2) Keep it updated.

    3) Theme... is your blog a commentary on the latest news? Is it a diatribe about activities in your daily life? Is it only about your pet's quirks? A theme isn't necessary, but a purpose helps. Now, if you just want to write anything that comes to mind, well, try to make it sound like an interesting read.

    4) A sense of fun - humor always helps.

Now, whether people are interested - I guess that can be measured by via various visitor stats and comments.
