Do you hide your tattoos?

My wife recently got her fourth tattoo. She has one on her lower leg, 1 on her hip, and 2 on her back. She got it on her back so it couldn't be seen by strangers. Her friend who's also inked told her you don't get tattoos to hide them. I agree with her friend. To me if you are proud of you tats why hide them. She doesn't have to hide them for work so I don't understand her way of thinking. What do you think?

  1. i have 1 on my left breast and when i went to church yesterday i hid it because i don't think its appropriate for men to be lookin at my boob in church lol . thats about the only time i'll hide it.

  2. first off, tattoos arent just to 'show off' to everyone...some have personal meaning that we get just for the comfort of knowing we have them. when i get a tattoo, i just think where it will look best to me and get it there. i dont care if everyone else will be able to see them all the time. i have some on my back as well that are covered by a regular shirt but there are some things i wear where they can be seen or all of them can be seen when im in a bathing suit. either way, it doesnt matter to me. if i happen to wear something where you can see them, well lucky you!

  3. I currently only have 1 tat, a dragon on my left shoulder blade. It's easy to show off and easy to hide. My next tats will be on my lower back and upper thigh. My current piercings are ears, tongue and navel and planned piercings are Christina and corset pioercings.

Ear piercings aside, all my mods are easy to hide and easy to show off. I can understand why some would want to keep theirs hidden though. I've had random strangers in the shop touch my tattoo when it's visible. It's an invasion of my space.

  4. Maybe it is private to her.  You know?

I cover mine for work because I have to.  I do have one on my stomach that is hidden, but that is only b/c I don't always walk around with my stomach showing.

I think she should have the freedom to show it whenever she wants, but if she wants to cover it, I guess it is her choice.

I am glad to hear a man proud of his wife's tattoos.  My husband is the same way, and I am so thankful!

  5. i hate having to hide mine but i work in a business environment where i cant really have them hanging out. all of mine are in spots i can choose to show them or not.  maybe she's afraid of people she doesnt know seeing them and prejudging her??

  6. The only time I am really covering mine is at work. Unfortunately there is a dress code to follow and well the dress code won't let me show off my art. Now when I am not at work I show them all off.

  7. Well I have one on my ribs, and I hide it when my dad is around.

He ever finds out I got a tattoo he'd blow up.

Well she doesn't have to hide it seeing how she doesn't have to be nervous someone telling her off. Maybe suggest to her that i'd be fun to see her show it off.

  8. maby it is a special one on her back...

  9. it never hurts to get a tattoo that can be easily concealed-- for special occasions like weddings, job interviews, etc. you never know where life will take you and whether or not that entails being judged on previous decisions. i have 5 tattoos that i can easily cover up when i need to, but can be revealed on my own time...

  10. For alot of people, they are so personal with their meanings, they are for them, not for the world.

  11. tattoos are art. if you get a tat you should be happy with it and not care about showing it. if theres a problem with showing it then i guess she dont truly like it on her body which means waste of money.

  12. Tattoos are very personal and mean different things to different people. Your wife got those tattoos for herself, not for everyone else in the world. It's up to her if she wants to show them or not, and if she chooses to hide them, more power to her.

  13. I've got 5 tats and 4 of them can be hidden or public, my choice.  One is on my chest, and since I don't walk around shirtless all the time it can be seen at pools or beaches...anyway, I keep them in areas I can cover them because I work in a business environment.  It shouldn't matter, but sadly it does.  My career is very important to me.  Once I get that corner office though...I won't care as much, but while i'm in this cubicle, I'd like to keep it professional.

  14. I am heavily tattooed and wear clothing that covers all of mine sometimes.

People stare.  I can be as proud as I want of my tattoos, it doesn't mean I always want to be stared at.

  15. That's a little bit insensitive of her friend. Just because one person loves to show off his/her tattoos doesn't mean she should have to too. What I think is it's her business and don't worry about it. Maybe her way of thinking is it's her tattoo, not the world's.

  16. all of mine can be hidden easily, the only reason i keep them hidden is family - they really dont like tattoos so my parents asked me nicely if i would hde them when around other family members. its fine with me as i uderstand that some people stereotype tattoos with a certain type of person. maybe this is the same with your wife - she is afraid that on seeing them people will assume that she is the kind of person she isnt and judge her.

  17. I also have tattoos. I have them in places where they can be covered up or they can be shown. While now days many people of all ages have tattoos, in some environments they are still frowned on. Your wife may not have to hide them for work now, but is this a job that she will be in until she retires?

And, personally, I feel that you get tattoos for yourself. No, you don't have to hide them, but most people that I know have personal meaning attached to them and it really doesn't matter to them if everyone sees them or not. As long as you know what is underneath your own clothing you should be happy.

As for you, I'm betting that you see your wife's tattoos often at home and elsewhere. It's good that you find them s**y and are turned on by them, but the choice should be hers as to if she shows them off to everyone or not.

  18. NO!!! If you get tats, you should not be ashamed of them However  both of my tats and the one Im getting in a couple of weeks are all in spots that are not visible to the public unless I show them off... This is only because I want to be able to be in a business enviroment without my tats showing... But in the streets, its a different story!
