Question:

Do you honestly believe hiring Patrick McEnroe as a coach will help Andy Roddick revive himself?

It seems like no matter who his coach is, he struggles to win important events. Even in the small events, Roddick has trouble winning titles. If I'm not mistaken, Patrick McEnroe was not that great of a singles player, so what makes him such the expert on how to revive Roddick's career?

  1. i think it's going back to Roddick himself. as for Pat, i think he's fine. i read his "Tennis for Dummies" when beginning tennis :)

  2. probably not but some players are better as coaches, and if andy can get a good draw and gameplan as good as agassi use to then he has a shot.

  3. Yeah, I was curious about that too.  Roddick tried Jimmy Connors for awhile, now it's sad-sack Pat?  Who's next, Martina?

  4. He's just helping him with the US Open. He's not his coach or anything. But you're right! I wonder if it was a good choice. Well, considering today's match I think McEnroe must be lucky for him. He played really really well and he deserved to win. Lets wish him luck for the upcoming matches too!

  5. he's not andy's new coach,he's just helping him during the open.-

  6. Actually, the best coaches are people who were not "great players" when they played the game. Look at Phil Jackson in basketball, he was at best a mediocre player in the NBA, but is considered one of the best coaches of all time. Players who were great players don’t make good coaches because they are perfectionist, always comparing players to their own game when they played.  I don't think that it matters anyway, because Andy has a two-dimensional game, big serve and forehand, that isn’t going to win you many titles.

  7. Wow...

Not sure....I mean, it looks like he has tried different coaches (Brad Gilbert, Jimmy Connors, and now Patrick McEnroe)...I just don't know...it's gotta be frustrating though to try and put together another grand slam victory and keep coming up short....

I never really cared for him in the past, but I have always liked the underdog...and that is how I see him because he struggles to win the majors...

God bless him, I'd like to see him win another...
