Question:

Do you keep Varitek?

Alright, I'm a Yankee fan watching the game right now. They are talking about Jason Varitek and his horrible offensive season right now. He's the Boston Captain, the only one I can ever remember, and still has excellent defensive ability. So, do you keep him? And if yes, what contract would you offer?

  1. Yes I keep him, but this is knowing he is not in a slump he has been declining offensively for years. He calls a good game and handles the Sox pitching staff great. 2 year contract worth $18 mill with a team option for a 3rd year.

  2. well i dont think the sox have much of a choice i mean honestly who's going to sign that old washed up has-been.  My guess is he's looking at free agency in the off season possibly retiring.

  3. Keep him....offer 5 yr contract for 5 mill cause hes been there and a presence behind the plate

  4. yes and probably a 3-2 year contract. hes just in a big slump

  5. I would offer him a two year contract. He means very much to that pitching staff. He should stay there as long as he is able to catch and play defense.

  6. im a boston fan and i think that we should keep him.he is an important part of our team.hes our captain!although he isnt hitting all that well,he is still great defensively.i think he knows the game more than anyone else.i remeber,i think it was last season, when hte sox lost him for a long period of time.they werent doing too well with varitek out.we need him as our catcher.

  7. id keep him,idk about a contract i would offer him

    im too cheap

just like the other guy said hes in a slump, but he is no doubt good

  8. i'd keep him just for his presence

  9. 2 years

    and keep it cheep

  10. No, he has intangibles,

He has the MLB record for intangibles in a single season with 159 intangibles in 2005.

This year his intangibles are down a bit though this year at 65 for the season... wait what's that? Intangibles is not a registered baseball stat? Oh well, at least he has a "C" on his shirt, that must mean something right? All kidding aside, Last time I checked he was batting .170, throwing out 17% of runners. The Yankees should pay him to stay with the Red Sox.

  11. I keep him for two main reasons:  He is outstanding behind the plate and as a leader for the team.  The Red Sox should keep him, because they will need him for at least 1 or 2 more years.
