  1. They are resting and awaits the presence of a blood supplier. That is if it is a female.

  2. i really dont know

  3. Hanging and climbing are too different things for building muscles.

  4. to rest

  5. Not all mosquitoes rest indoors indoors on walls, some hang out outside.  I put references for two types of mosquitoes (and and extensive quote for one, but it's not that I think you have that type of mosquito in your house), but that was just a quick search.

I do know that one of the ways that indoor spraying with DDT (in the old days) was unexpectedly successful was the fact that the malaria carrying mosquitoes rested indoors on the wall.  So, they got a strong dose of the DDT after taking a blood meal and it killed them off very effectively.  Of course the other environmental consequences were so severe that the DDT was banned...

    "Patterns of Feeding And Resting

Most Anopheles mosquitoes are crepuscular (active at dusk or dawn) or nocturnal (active at night). Some Anopheles mosquitoes feed indoors (endophagic) while others feed outdoors (exophagic). After blood feeding, some Anopheles mosquitoes prefer to rest indoors (endophilic) while others prefer to rest outdoors (exophilic). Biting by nocturnal, endophagic Anopheles mosquitoes can be markedly reduced through the use of insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs) or through improved housing construction to prevent mosquito entry (e.g. window screens). Endophilic mosquitoes are readily controlled by indoor spraying of residual insecticides. In contrast, exophagic/exophilic vectors are best controlled through source reduction (destruction of the breeding sites)".

  6. Oh come on, they just want to gossip with their friends like us!!!
