In some places as in Romania (where more then 5000 bears live) many people were killed by bears during their sleep in their tents. But if I have an alarm to wake me I could defend myself using a gun. I am interested in more kind of alarm systems that you could advise.

  1. I have no clue how much this costs...

    Bear Alert Alarm System

Maximize the effectiveness of your bear proof electric fencing system. The alarm system is activated when the bear touches the hot wire. The bear receives a shock which causes a short on the fence wire, simultaneously tripping the siren. The audio stimulation frightens the bear and, more importantly, alerts camp personnel of the bear’s presence. This system comes complete with alarm control box and siren. It can be rigged with any alarm device (ie. lights, security monitors, etc.) that is triggered by a switch closure. Also ideal for monitoring the perimeter of game (deer/elk) fencing.

To purchase: contact Margo Supplies Ltd.

  2. Nothing will work better than a dog....  it'll wake you and warn, then you can take over and defend yourself and family.  Some dogs will even try to do the defending for you.

  3. Radio Shack used to sell a small, battery powered, portable motion sensing alarm.  Check with the European Radio Shack stores to see if they still have them.

  4. I agree with Soulsource, a dog is the answer!  I will loan you my Jack Russel if your interested!

  5. Most of the cases in Romania were the result of campers keeping food inside their tent.  It's a rookie mistake that gets people injured or killed.

If you were to alarm the area, you realize that any deer, raccoon, opossum or squirrel could potentially trigger the alarm.

If you are truly going camping in bear country, as thousands of people do every year, just follow the simple rules in the links below.
