Why is mastiha found only on the island of CHIOS?

good question..but i really have no idea why..only that it is proably the same reason why ,cork trees are only found in portugal.but i always wonder that about mashtica..but i can see your point ..chios being an island..that is strange and yet so many other isalnds near it dont have it?  but iam hopeing some one knows i like to know why too.

Mastiha is a unique product, natural and healthy as much as delicious. They tried to grow mastiha trees in other parts of the words but the tree juice wouldn't go try. It's the climate and the soil.

It gave to the island of Chios significant power and benefits especially during the Ottoman years.

Personally l am in love with mastiha,it's an excellent ingretient in my cooking ( apart from the sweets it is used in other recipes such as the mastiha soup)

( I even chew mastiha ELMA know) :)

Mastiha is a plant that originally came from Chios but there other places where it grows too but it is not high quality as the one in Chios.

It is hard to grow because the soil needs to have certain alkalies, you need to have two plants (a male and female) and it has to have the right climate, temperature, sunny area, and a well drained soil.

These all factors make it hard to grow in many places of the world and Chios has the right atmosphere for the plant to grow.
