  2. Hola.

I'm mexican, I live 90 minutes away from San Luis Potosí city, but in Jalisco state.

San Luís Potosí is a mexican state, and its capital city is called San Luis Potosí too. The state has mainly two different ecological areas: the "huasteca" and the "altiplano potosíno" (potosino highland, potosino is the way to call people or anything from there).

The highland (altiplano) is mainly plane land about or over 2'000 meters (over sea level (very high, if you are from a low site you could feel lack of oxygen until you get used to it). This area is in an arid zone (semi-desertic), the state is crosed by the Cancer Tropic, so at the highlands the weather is NOT tropical, more "mediterranean". San Luis Potosí city is located in this area.

The "huasteca" is in lowlands, it has tropical weather, VERY hot and with high humidity (wet). It located to the east of the state, and almost reaches the sea in the Gulf of Mexico (but it doesn't). The "huasteco" people ("teeken" in their own dialect) are  descendets from ancient mayans, from a period in time the mayan culture extended thru the gulf. In the time of aztecs, the mayans were falling apart, and the "teeken" or "huastecos" (this is an adaptation to spanish from the náhuatl  word used by aztecs to call them) were isoleted in the current area.) The "huasteca" is a wonderful region, green and tropical, VERY different to the highlands.

The city if San Luis Potosí is a modern and rich city, famous in this area of México for the hospitals there. We have gone there. The city was founded by spaniards, the downtown is a colonial ville, very nice. The city is located at the southwestern extreme of the state.

  3. I am the person def. to answer this question. San Luis Potosi is the most amazing place ever!!! I live in Aquismon San Luis Potosi. I really hope that you get to visit the Huasteca Region. Tradition is very strong and respect for others is held about all else. I truly prefer SLP to the USA. When you walk down the street everyone says good day and everyone reaches out their hands to yours. People are poor and many live in adobe or wooden homes. In most of SLP there is not water nor electricity, but natural beauty will take your breath away. Roses literally grow wild, and fruit is plentiful. Right outside my door there are peaches, mangos, oranges, bananas, avocados, chayote, nonas, coffee, papaya, guava, and so much more. I think sometimes that God has placed the fruit there because he knows how much the people struggle to survive, and that is his way of keeping them vital. It mystifies me because the people are truly happy. People work hard, but never complain. The people are happy and helping out their neighbor Do me one favor though, it is custom when you go to a persons home, or when they come to visit you that coffee is offered before visiting takes process. If coffee or food is offered to you please accept it out of respect. Remember that the coffee is hand picked, toasted, shelled, toasted again, and hand grind. Corn is grown, dried, cooked, and hand grinded to make tortillas. So the food or coffee offered to you is a hard days work and is offered out of pure respect. Even if you may not like what you see, please accept at least one tortilla or bowl of beans. If you want to know more then just write me. Of places you must visit are Tamul, Puente de Dios. They are amazing! If you want to see a few pictures of my home in Mexico then you can take a look at the link below, it is my myspace page.
