I don't know anything about Goethe but as it starts 'Do you know the country where the Lemon trees...' it is probably referring to the Middle East or possibly Southern Spain.

The song/poem describes Italy and are spoken/sung by the Italian girl Mignon, who´s one of the characters in Goethe´s novel "Wilhelm Meisters theatralische Sendung".
