  1. Some professional poker players. They have what you call a poker face, even watching it gets you pumping and intimidated. Look them up.

  2. my dad has earned a LOT of money playing poker. he is a proffesional but plays on machines usually.

his main job is an investor though

  3. I play blackjack part time, it brings in about 45/hour for about 15k extra per year, i couldnt do it full time as i find it really boring.

I have spent some time where i held no job and lived solely off of blackjack income, it was very scary and i coudl go out on a wing and support a family that way do to the volitility of winning and losing.  It was however a very relaxing and care free time of my life.

  4. I don't know anyone like that.

  5. when my bf first moved here, he had a hard time finding a job so for 3 months he said his job was gambling.  which was very rewarding for him.  but like a previous answer, he would go to the casino around 7pm and stay sometimes til 4 in the morning.  he had savings to fall back on if he ever had a bad night.  we'd each take a $100 and whatever profit we made, we put in the bank and used our $100 for the next time.  there was a week when we combined our profit, we had made $7000.  of course that helped times when we didn't profit much at all.  he used all the money he didn't need for bills and invested in buying 20 rental properties.  now we are landlords and i think about how i'd rather be working the casino instead of listening to pesky renters.

our family life was tiring for me because i had a 1 yr old, but we wouldn't leave until she went to bed (at my parents house).  the next day I would be at my parents house before she woke up so she'd see me first thing.  then would take her to the sitter so i could go to class.  so i was always exhausted but on the outside, people thought we were living a normal life.  the long nights and no sleep paid off bc now i get to stay at home with her until she starts preschool.

we only did it for 3 months though.  i don't think i could have done it much longer.  and now we hardly ever go to the casino.  it's  not fun anymore.  now he plays poker online and that's a pretty steady extra income.  we don't rely on the money for anything, so we use it to pay for vacations or to remodel our house.  he generally only makes $400 a week from online poker unless he wins a good tournament, but it hard to dedicate the time to tourneys with a normal job.

  6. well i don't know them personally, but i know of people who do. Such poker players as Gus Hansen, Mike Matusow, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, the list goes on. they're all multi-millionaires, and alot of these players have never had a real job. I wouldn't do it though. wayy too risky.

  7. Yes there are many professional gamblers who do make a good income, however, they often make more money  from books, endorsements and websites than from the actual gambling.

And if you include professional football handicappers, even though is is seasonal, they top ones make a great living!

  8. there are quite a few high stakes poker players that all they do is go play in different tournys... man that would be the life.

  9. I have a friend who makes a living playing limit hold'em in Indian casinos in AZ.  He says he can expect to play about 8 hours a day, and averages about $200/day.  That comes out to about $52K a year before taxes, so it's the same as holding a mid-level professional job.  He's been doing it for years, and by his home life you'd think he was an insurance adjustor or some other middle class drone.  His lifestyle is comfortable, not lavish.  He keeps a bankroll that he adjusts for variance, and "pays" himself twice a month, just like a paycheck.  If you're smart and disciplined poker is just a job like any other.

The only difference I see is that he goes to work about 4:00 in the afternoon to hit the people unwinding after work, and stays until somewhere between midnight and two.  But that's just like working a swing shift.
