there are many resources, but you need to find out what is done about waste reduction specific to your geographic area. Know that as with everything else, there are varying opinions on certain environmental issues. Do note that once items go into the landfill, they do very little degrading, so buying a biodegradable product and then putting it into the landfill does nothing to help the environment.

Hello!

In Nova Scotia we have some great resources at www.rrfb.com and our Provincial webpage http://www.gov.ns.ca/enla/waste/

If you search nested links there are papers written on our success as Nova Scotians.  Along the South Shore of Nova Scotia we produce the least waste in the country!  we send approximately 340 kg/capita to landfill when the Canadian Average is over 700 kg/capita.

Also, our provincial government just set a new target to reduce waste to 300kg/capita by 2015!  Our current rate is near 480 kg/capita.  So . . . .although we are the best in the country, we still have some work to do.
