i've fallen really behind on my schoolwork. i'm in 11th grade and i do online high school. i've been slacking off a lot lately and i'm soooo far behind everyone else. i don't know how to motivate myself to do my work. i have so much to do! but it's not like sooo much where i'm never going to be able to catch up. if i worked hard i could get it all done. i don't have anything else interfering with my schedule. i'm just so bad at focusing on my work, i get distracted easily when i have the tv and the internet. and i've already cancelled my facebook and my myspace. does anyone know any tips to getting a lot of work done? and any tips to stress less? because i feel soo stressed. 11th grade is an important year and i don't want to blow it!!!!!! i can't switch out of online school by the way, so that's no an option. anything you can say to me to help me or if you relate to me in any way please tell me!!

timetable of what you want to study

    study with serious people

    meditate, exercise

  2. i get lost in school work too try getting an orginizer and do the most important wotk first and then do the small stuff. also try to start a study group so you all can do equal work. to relieve stress, try going out every saterday to reward yourself for doing all your work that week or try going to the gym to let out your stress on a work out machine and get a hot body at the same time

  3. The best way to answer this is to tell you that the Latin word for student is "discipuli". this gives us two words in English. "Disciple" which means follower or student, and "discipline". The relationship is clear. You will not be a good student until you are disciplined. And, you can't really say you are disciplined unless you are a good student. The first thing you need to realize is there is NOTHING in the field of knowledge that you can't learn if you focus and study hard. The human mind is an incredibly powerful computer, and I suspect you are either not using yours at all, or not using it effectively. Here's some tips I used to give my students (former Economics teacher here at HS level):

Study in the same place every night.

If you play music, play ONLY classical music, and NO LYRICS.

No TV or INTERNET. Do not even use the internet for research. Do all your research before you start studying.

Ask your parents to intercept ALL telephone calls while you study, and to give you privacy. Turn off your cell phone.

Study for a half hour and then give yourself a 10 minute or so break, and then study another half hour. Stick to your schedule. This will increase your sense that you are getting more disciplined.

There's lots more you can do, but start with this. Oh yeah, get a decent night's sleep every night. At least 6-8 hours per night, even on weekends.

It isn't about how long you do this stuff as much as it is that you do it CONSISTENTLY. That is what builds the discipline. PLEASE feel free to email me if any of this doesn't work and I'll be happy to talk to you (or your parents) further. I was a HS teacher for 5 years, and have been a Pastor for 19. Good Luck! And, you are right when you say that the 11th grade is by far the most crucial. By the senior year, your path is pretty much clear. Most decisions as to whether you're going to college and where are made in the Junior, not the Senior, Year.

  4. hi! WELL, DISCIPLINE IS WHAT YOU NEED... KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN LIFE AND THINK ABOUT YOUR FUTURE...AND PRAY TO GOD ALWAYS FOR GUIDANCE....

TIME MANAGEMENT IS WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER FOR YOU TO RELIEVE STREESS....YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR LIMITATION AS A HUMAN BEING,,, EAT HEALTHY FOODS, EXERCISE, SLEEP WELL...AND THINK ALWAYS THAT PROBLEM IS EASY FOR YOU TO SOLVE, 4 GOD IS ALWAYS W/ YOU...

  5. Hopefully you are in a quiet place to do your school work. You need to work by a schedule each day. Take little breaks in between school so your eyes will not get tired with being in front of a computer. In order to get yourself motivated, you need to first get plenty of rest the night before, get yourself a good big breakfast, do some exercise like getting on a treadmill or do jumping jacks, listen to some good soft classical music to get you in the mood for relaxation.  Keep the TV off until you are done with your school work.

Try not to overwhelm yourself with wanting to get your work done so fast because if you do, you are more likely to make some mistakes and then you will have to do them over again. Take your time! It shouldn't matter if you are behind in your school work, as long as you get the work done.

So, the best thing to relieve stress is to do some type of exercise that you are interested in doing before starting your school work. My son is in the 11th grade too and he still goes by a schedule. Why? Because it is now a habit for him. He takes his time and he takes breaks so he can play his guitar. He said that playing his guitar helps him concentrate and is so relaxing especially when it comes down to taking tests.

No need to rush, take your time because you will have better results in the end. Hope this helps you. You can do it!

  6. try herbal tea..

  7. What's your goal? That's probably your problem. You state that it's an important year, but for what? What are you going to do with all this education? At this point you just see it as learning for learning's sake, and it's boring the tar out of you.

Figure out what you're going to do with it. College? Work? Get a whiteboard and write a vision statement. Print out pictures of where you want to go to college. Make a timeline of what you are going to do and when.

When you have a goal in mind, things will go more smoothly because you'll see the point. Discipline is fine, it'll get the job done, however, if you want to do this with joy in your heart and with a purpose...figure how where you are going and why.

    Good luck.

  8. The only thing that is going to reduce your stress is to solve the problem, which means doing your work.

Take each assignment, break it down into it's component parts and type all those bits up. The list will look very, very long, but they are all bite sized little problems so will tick off very quickly. Just say one assignment breaks down into 15 component parts. If you've ticked off 14 by the end of the day, you're going to feel much more positive than if you don't get to tick anything off because you haven't fully finished anything.

I also suggest you do as much work as possible away from the computer. The screen seems to have some sort of sedative effect :) Drag a chair out into the garden, take food and your books. You still have to do the work, but the environment is much nicer. I often took my work to the beach. Make sure you take your little picnic out with you, or it'll become an excuse to leave your books and wander in and out of the kitchen. Everyone needs brainfood when they study.

  9. Here's an answer everyone hates, discipline. It's what you need. Whenever you feel the urge to go do something that will not help you, don't. Try and start up regular study sessions and take breaks regularily. Just knowing that you can catch up to everyone else is the most motivation anyone needs. It's like fat people knowing that one day, they can walk on the beach without anyone staring at them. (no offense to anyone)

  10. OK well currently I am in 9th grade and I am also home-schooled online. Well my grades dropped drastically in public school. I went from straight A's and B's to all F's with one B in health. When I do my work, I just think about how I have to work extra hard to get pass and still be in advanced classes to make up for my slipup. When I am at home, it is so boring. Nobody to talk to, have all day to sleep and watch tv so you really don't want to do something boring like home-school. Well what I do, is that I have to do at least 6hours of school a day. Well I dont wake up early and do it. I sleep all day long or do whatever I feel like it until about 3-4. Thats when I start. I will be well rested and I can be more concentrated since I can complete whatever else I had to do earlier in the day. I think that when doing homeschool you have to think about how you are very challenged. In a good way of course. You are doing all of this through the computer w/o a teacher. You can tell people how you got through homeschool. By the way, 11th grade is one of the most important years of school. You start thinking about college and whatnot. There is no turning back now and just reward yourself how far you got. I am happy with myself because when I was in night school my grades raised to A's and B's and now that I am home-schooled, I am pretty sure that I have very good grades. I want that reputation of being very smart and can overcome my problems in the past. You have to think about what your goal is and what school will do to help it. But dont stress yourself out. Visit other sites while doing school. Eat. Do anything just so you can be more comfortable and be more concentrated. Well I doubt that you have to do school on weekends but since you say you are behind, trade in a day of lounging around for school.Work about 3hours on the weekends. Maybe more. You will sure complete your work. You can also add it to your hours of school you do a week. Good Luck. :)

  11. You need discipline and make yourself concentrate on your school work.  If you got caught up on the work, you probably wouldn't feel as stressed.  Exercises is a good way to relieve stress.  Now that I think about it.....  Have you ever considered martial arts.  There you will learn discipline, concentration, and stress relief.  It sounds like you are doing the right thing by cutting back on personal computer time, and TV.

  12. Make a deal with your parents to cut you off whatever it is you like to do if homework not done in a timely manner.  Also, try to relate what you are studying to the real world, if applicable.  Read a book or article and/or watch a TV show or surf Web for interesting tidbits on what you are studying.  My teenager finds these methods work.  You should be able to extend some time with online school...ask them.

  13. Exercise is a good stress reliever. Do your studying in a quiet room that has no TV, no Stereo, no Telephone and no foot traffic.
