  1. one tradition we have is a quincenera.  Its like a sweet 16 but when ur 15.  Its our way of introducing the daughter into society as a young women.  she has 14 "damas" which represents her first 14 yrs.  she dresses in a colored dress usually pastel colored.  she is given her last doll and given heels to represent that she is a woman.

  2. Día de los Muertos. This is the day of the dead. This is when many people in Mexico honor their dead and make alters for them. Look this up it is a realy big topic. The festeval lasts for several days. Alters or Ofrendas are built for dead relatives. The alters are decorated with skulls made of sugar and they often  have the diseased name on it. The alter is decorated to represent surtent eliments including fire an water. Water is represented by the obvious but fir can be represented by candles or also flowers. The diseased favorite foods and drinks are also placed on the ofrenda. Pictures as well as figurenes are placed on these aters. During this season bakeries make breads in the shape of skeletons and skulls all symbolizing death.

This originates from ancient Aztec practices but was immersed into modern Mexican culture by its association with all saints day which also occurs in october. This celebration gives Mexico a unique Catholic tradition. Día de los Muertos and Our lady of Guadalupe are as significant to Mexican Catholicism as St. Patrick and the Shamrock are to Irish Catholicism.

This is one of Mexico's largest holidays and is much more signifigant than the people of Mexico (not those of the U.S.) than Cinco de Mayo.

    Good luck
