My sister just had a baby and called him Squall, after Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy 8...I've never been into games and at first I thought it was awkward and reminded me of big birds. o.o; Plus a squall can also mean a loud wail or cry, which wasn't appealing. But it's growing on me.

She wants to have a girl and name it Rinoa, but I said that would be SO awkward because Squall and Rinoa were in love in the game so...no.

She wants to name a girl Kairi now, or Yuna...all her names come from video games.

Do you know anyone named after a video game character? Anyone who has named someone after a video game character? What about you?

How do you feel about it? I'm curious.

  1. I have a friend called mario and on the news I heard a baby called Lego

  2. Yeas. I actually know a few peoplel who have named thier kids after video game characters....specifically a little girl names Aeris (from final fantasy 7), and a little boy named Seph (they shortened the name to be more appropriate..but it's in regards to Sephiroth from final fantasy 7)...my own partner and I said that if we ever have children...and a girl, we'd name her Freya (from final fantasy 9)

I tend to run in the nerdy and dork circle of friends...so it's common for us to have both pets and children named after video game characters, book characters, etc..etc...

I think it's great...at least the names are far more original than the mundane Mike, Sam, Joe, etc...it's really no diffrent than the hardcore christians who name their children from the Bible...or hippies naming their kids from nature like Sunshine or Rain...just all a matter of interest, and prefrence

  3. i have a friend called mario, and another called pikachu.
