  1. i'd be ashamed to stand up..........it's not what it used to be.....it doesn't stand for what it used to stand for...the people that stand up live in the past with eyes wide shut

  2. Both Clinton and Obama .And the competitor Mc.Caine.

  3. The majority of people stand for their national anthems..

Courtesy and love of our country..

  4. Hundreds, thousands and millions of people still do.

    best of luck to you!

  5. To be honest I've never heard God Save The Queen played out side a football stadium.

  6. Anytime it is played in a public place I do.

  7. Basically anyone in uniform, or civilians who are citizens of  Britain or the Commonwealth when it is played.  Foreign visitors in UK are expected to be polite and do the same.

Nowadays royalty is far less respected or even considered relevant than in the past by an increasing number of people, so some do not stand, it is not a crime to sit it out.  School kids, people in uniform and those who respect royalty will always stand.

The English National Anthem is all about the QUEEN not the nation or her serving men.

    God save our gracious Queen

    Long live our noble queen

    God save our queen

    Send her victorious,

    happy and glorious

    Long to reign over us

    God save our queen.

If you believe that the nation would be better served by an elected head of state that can be kicked out if no good - after a fixed term in office, then why stand?

Personally, I served in Her Majesty's Navy for 20 years so I have shown my loyaly to her and my nation, I don't feel the need to stand for a d**n awful tune.  I was raised a proud Englishman, a Royalist and a patriot.

But our politicians have sold our once great nation to the europeans and there is little to proud of thats left.  Charles has lowered  the respect I once felt for the monarchy -not the current queen, but the institution.  And when he becomes king with uglybugga Camilla as queen, I will wish for a republic, and never stand for the anthem again.  I cannot think of 2 people less fitted to "reign over us."

Sorry if that offends anyone - you can all give me a thumbs down if you wish.

  8. Yes, Me, And so we all should. It kills me to see the football lot miming the words incorrectly when it's played. It should be taught in schools. our country is great and so is the Royal family.

  9. i know that i stand when the irish natioanal anthem is played, and so does my familly

    im patriotic

  10. I certainly do. In fact, everyone I know stands when the National Anthem is played and most people that I do NOT know do the same! It would be disrespectful and unpatriotic to do otherwise. We have a wonderful, beautiful, free country.

The fact that Bush is the most dishonest president we've ever had the misfortune to have in our country's highest office isn't even due to the fact he was elected by popular vote... he definitely wasn't...it's well known he stole the elections, and has lied repeatedly to his countrymen (that'd be us).

Soon his 'reign' will be over - at long last - and he will go down in history for the ne'r to do well that he always was, is and will be. If Ronald Reagan could talk, he'd say the same. It's not even a Republican vs Democrat thing.

He took office with a balanced budget and a surplus - he's made a real mess of things and is responsible for such incredible loss of life - the lives of our own citizens and innocent lives of citizens worldwide (9/11) and those of our allies and those of thousands of innocents in the middle east as well....  I believe the only reason he hasn't been assassinated is the country is even more afraid of Cheny (who's been basically pulling Bush's strings anyway) uck.

However none of that will ever cause Americans NOT to stand when our Anthem is played. Thanks very much for your question.

  11. I do.  I mean, I don't do it if I hear it on the TV or something like that...  But I do it in public when it is played, yes.

  12. I do.  And I also stand when the flag passes.

  13. presidents and other political people, atheletes, teachers and students, me!

  14. Oh yes I do!  I also stand for the Halleluja Chorus in Handel's Messiah!  I sometimes do a lot of standing when we have a joint English/Latvian event!  Up, down, Up, down - keeps us awake!  But seriously, why not?  We should have some pride and respect.  What does it cost to be upstanding and focussed for a few minutes?  Like wise silences.  I never cease to be amazed and disgusted by people who carry on shouting, laughing, joking etc during silences!  Utter disrespect.

  15. no, only footballers

  16. Anyone who has any respect for the sacrifices made by others does... and that goes for any country.

  17. What kind of question is this? It is our duty as Americans to stand during our National Anthem. Have you ever been to a Baseball game?

  25. Yes. I worked and lived for 6 years in the Philippines.  I was walking in a mall in Manila, when the American national anthem started playing over the speakers.  I stopped dead in my tracks, put my hand over my heart, and while tears streamed down my face, stayed that way until it was over.  I knew then and there, it was time to come home.

Stg, this is true.  I will never forget that day.
