I suspect my daughter has it however she has now been placed in a residential unit as they think she has an attachment disorder, I don't agree, I know she has Aspergers, she's 9

I love her and the sooner she is helped then she can come home,

Is there a similarity with both conditions ??

  1. surely they cant stop you getting her out of that place? what about getting a second opinion, you have a right to get one.

i think an attachment problem COULD be linked, because of the whole hate change.

but your description of speech, with aspie kids their speech development is more advanced than others their age.

theres no way im diagnosing but this seems more like another asd (autism spectrum disorder for those who dont know) and maybe an underlying thing like adhd

  2. I have Asperger's and I made a video about so people can understand it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbgUjmeC-...

  3. the only thing i know about aspergers is that sufferers have a hard time in communicating with new people, and are socially inept, they would rather be on their own than with people unytil they can trust and know them fully,

that is all i can say im sorry, hope it helps a little

if you are unhappy with what you have been told by doctors etc. go for a secong opinion, try different things until you get what suits your daughters needs, it may mean moving her about but if it gets her the right treatment then id say its worth it!

  4. I dont now much about RAD but Aspergers is hight functioning Autisim.  Tipicaly people with Aspergers are very intellegent for their age but lack all or most social cues, Facial expersions ect.

  5. I have a 23 year old with Aspergers.  It doesn't sound like this is what your child has.  My son was adopted by me last year after living with me for some time under adult foster care. I think she has Autism.  Sound is a key with this.  Joe is highly intelligent but lacks social skills and will avoid a lot not to be in them. He is loving and caring but demanding if I let him.  He has to be on a schedule and it takes a lot to get him to try something new or different.  He has trouble with balance.  His type of Autism is on the higher level. His eye contact has got better and he seems to thrive in the love my older son and I have given him.  I do hope this helps you.  .

  6. to be honest it sounds more severe than asperger's.  it sounds like mild autism.  can you have her evaluated by a psychologist?  that would be ideal.  a social worker cannot fully diagnose her.  medication may be in order as well as changes to her environment.  good for you for looking out for her.  don't stop until you feel she is taken care of.  children with autism and asperger's are very hard to care for and you need as much help as you can get.  good luck

  7. go to google and type it in; or any other search engine. aspergers is when you are categorized by social isolation and eccentric behaviour in childhood.

always look after her and make her feel welcome. don't call her by her label say she has that disorder but that is not who she is.

    God Bless

  8. i think there are symptoms that overlap, but if proffesionals have evaluated her then there probably right. check for other symptoms of aspergers or speak to your doctor

  9. social situations are really difficult for them.

and if they can't find something they don't care how many times you tell them to stop looking for it they are going to look for it, rip things apart until they find it.

it is more social than anything, so she will seem normal, she just wont be able to read clues that others can read...change in voice, or rolling eyes, raised eyebrows.

her being in a residential home might be very difficult for her, very stressful

you might want to talk to a rn, or your dr. because they might be able to talk to the home.  either that or talk to a lawyer to talk about your options because if she is stressing out it is going to take longer for her to get diagnosed.

    blessings

  10. tell her school you want her tested for special education. asbergers is one of the tests that they can do. once you request the testing they have 30 days to start and there is no charge. my son is in special ed because of social deffiance disorder and his grades went from f's to a's and b's and he is much happier and the school has to make some adaptions and allowances.
