  1. 1)  The two companies - Sirius and XM have now merged and are the same company.  For now, though, each has maintained its own channel lineup.  The music channels are in the process of being consolidated right now.  So you would essentially get the same music channels eventually.  This may happen as early as October.

Sports offerings are different though.  Sirius covers the NFL, NASCAR, and a list of 20-30 of the most popular college teams.  XM covers the MLB and NHL, as well as the major conferences in college sports.

    2) It depends on what you think "better" means.  There is definitely nothing else like it.  You can listen to the same station across North America and not change the channel.  The music channels are commercial free - something FM won't give you.  Some people will tell you that mp3 players are better, but if you want something you can just turn on and have a wide variety of content to listen to, its great.

    3) No one knows for sure.  Neither company has made a nickel of profit yet, but the merger is basically their chance at survival.

  2. I bought a new car that came with xm, I liked it so much, I had it installed in my conversion van(the type you can play in your home as well, with the home docking station). I recently took a vacation in my van, put over 1500 miles on it, & it was great having xm, no changing stations because you got out of range.

XM, & Sirius, are merging, & it will be possible to get the best of both companies.

  3. Satellite radio is a subscription service that offers you a wide variety of entertainment, including music, news, sports, talk, entertainment, traffic and weather services, and much more. It's broadcast from coast to coast in the 48 lower United States, so you'd be able to drive from, say, Boston to San Diego and never lose the signal. The signal is also digital, so it's always clear and free of static. When you subscribe, you receive an entertainment package of over 120 channels
