Millions upon millions is probably the most exact number you'll get.  The problem is that according to the article I found on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation website, "There are about 25 million cars in China, but in Beijing alone, 1,000 new automobiles hit the streets every day. By 2020, the country is expected to have a whopping 140 million cars."

According to one Chinese quoted in the article, "There's a prejudice against bicycles these days,  We're banned from riding on many roads."  The government sponsored a no-car day to help reduce smog before the Beijing Olympics.  People ignored it.

So, China has become a "modern" nation.

Makes you want to cry.  The maker of the most bicycles in the world is now turning to cars.
