Do you know how to get free money???

Question

i am looking for a free grant. Every website i used is asking me to pay money in order to receive money. I dont know if they are trying to scam me and i heard that there are free grants out there. I dont want to pay money to get money. Has anyone ever applied for a free grant and did not have to pay for it.

If you had to pay for it it wouldnt be free.  The only grant (for school) that is truely free.

The best way to get grants is by filling out the FAFSA: FREE Application for Federal Student Aid.  Be sure when you do so to have the report sent to all the schools you plan on (or are) attending, and the school will figure out how much to give you.  I get usually about $3000+ per year in federal and state grants.

Another route to try are scholarships, which can be both need-based (ie, you are "poor") or merit-based (ie, you are "smart" or have won an award for something).  Scholarships are also free.  The university you are attendings' financial aid office should be able to give you forms to fill out for scholarships offered by the school.

Another fairly good resource is FastWeb.  You can sign up for free, and they will give you information tailored to you about national, local, and even school-level scholarships, grants, and work-study opportunities available to you.  I would especially recommend this if your family is fairly well off and you don't have particularly good grades, because they hve a lot of fun and easy onesto apply for, such as photot and essay contests.

Good luck in getting financial aid!  I am entering my final year of undergraduate education myself and have never had to pay a penny that I have not gotten back from financial aid! And next year I'll be getting a $6,000 refund as well as a free computer!
