Poetry Reading 101

When you read a poem

please hold it under your lamp.

See all the colors?

Hear vibrating sounds?

Place your mind in this word maze.

Cannot you see the way out?

Go dancing through the diction.

Take a flashlight where you go.

Drop under the surface,

with a barefooted slide,

and when you cross-over reach

for my hand, and give me 5.

Do not bind the words with rope.

Don't pick it apart,

It can't tell, it doesn't know.

It is not a punching bag

for you to search for meaning.

Just let it flow.

  1. Right. Just let it flow. This could easily be good advice on "life".

  2. Totally agree with this message. Well done Bob. You tell em son!

  3. Very good message in poetry. You may have contradicted the entire book that I returned to the library today, "How to Read Poetry" (Smile).

  4. When is the next class? I do not want to miss it.

    I couldn't find a flashlight so thought I'd use a match...

There is nothing left to pick apart..

I loved this light airy poem !

  5. I absolutely love it! Very good 101 lesson. I can smell it. I can taste it. There we go, now we used all 5 senses.

    See the colors.

    Hear the sounds.

    Feel the words.

    Smell the lesson.

    Now taste.

    Yummy poem.
