Question:

Do you know if you need to pull out the Directv access card before you sell the unit?

I upgraded to Directv HD receiver and DVR. I have the old ones that I like to sell on Craigslist, however they have the access cards still in them. Does it matter if you sell the unit with them or is it better to remove them?

  1. Doesn't matter if you pull the access card or not.

Once DirecTV cancelled the access card in your old receiver, it's unusable to anyone. If someone wants to reactivate your old receiver, that person will need to call DirecTV customer service and will receive a new access card.

But it certainly couldn't hurt to pull them anyway.

  2. Even if you called DirecTV and turned the unit off, I would still pull the card. It has your past info on it still (PPV orders and such).

Having bought a used receiver with a access card myself, DirecTV still sent a new one to me.
