It is a place where they have a big nasty military nick.  This is where they lock up all the squaddies what have done something wrong.

They also have a lot of paras in Colchester.  If you are beaten up by skinheads in a disco in Colchester, you can check if they are paras by looking at their clothes.  Normal skinheads do not wear brown corduroy trousers.

i live in colchester.  it's a busy town, with lots of history  behind it.  it still has part of the original wall that used to run round the whole town in the roman days.  a few months ago, archaeologists found an old roman chariot racetrack!  the castle is still there, but it costs a fortune to get into now!  it's a university town, as well has an army town so there are squaddies all over the place and students from many nationalities.  it's a bit like london on a much smaller scale!  i like colchester - i come from a smaller town originally so it seems very varied and interesting to me.

yes, been to Colchester a couple of times for a day out (from London) ... lovely market town, loads and loads of history, love your castle
