  1. be a back staber but have 1 true ally to depend on

  2. Hey, I'm playing Diplomacy as Italy in my Social Studies class right now. OK, first thing we did was ally with Germany to destroy Austria-Hungary. This will also reqiure either Turkey or Russia to move to Bulgaria and Rumania to close escape routes. Also, move to Tunis second turn with a convoy, then go to the Ionian Sea. Use this for many options. Also, ally with France because they wil control Spain and Portugal in the first few moves most likely and can then move into your "turf"

  3. Unfortunately Italy is regarded as slightly weaker than England, Russia or Germany. But a lot depends on how the other countries are played. You need alliances early to survive, but they are best regarded as temporary. Double-crossing is common. Take the title of the game seriously. Try to co-operate with other nations to remove your enemies. If that doesn't work, at least a non-aggression pact. But if you're too loyal yourself, you will lose. You must betray someone at the opportune moment.

  4. Ally with Austria and face Turkey.  If Austria is trusting, run through Trieste to Greece as your fleet takes tripoli.  Build fleets and take the southern Mediteranian.  Don't stab Austria in the back until like 1910.  Tell France and Germany you might help France or Germany if they are attacked by France or Germany but leave out England.  You want France and Germany to be busy with England.  Hopefully Russia is fighting in Scandanavia, but that is Austria's concern, not yours.

  5. I'm not sure that anyone will be able to give you a comprehensive strategy for Diplomacy. The main reason for this is your fate lies almost completely with the whims of your opponents, and you cannot trust anything they say to you regarding the game. Lies, rumors, deception, threats and the like are encouraged, and are in fact almost mandatory if you want to win. Even if you have the best "poker face" one could imagine, if your opponents are all set on s******g you, there is little you can do about it. The best advice I can give you is to just enjoy the game, and don't hold grudges against anyone based on the decisions players make in the game. They are also enjoying the game, after all. Or at least, they should be. - LJS
