Do you know of an anime that features insects (aside from Nausicaa and Blue Gender)?

...but is there an anime that uses them as a bigger part of the plot?

im not sure what you mean by features but in naruto this guy shino uses insect ninjutsu

Nausicaa and especially Blue Gender are both excellent anime's.

To answer you question, you will want to see Gunbuster.

Though quite a few anime's have brief episodes involving insects (Naruto, Saiyuki, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc)... Gunbuster I found to be most closely related to Blue Gender.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Gunbuster-

In the very near future, a race of huge, insect-like aliens are discovered traveling the galaxy.
