I am writing a paper on arrainged marriages in Mexico. When I was young my grandmother was arrainging my marriage to a town boy. I hear that this still happens often, but it is taboo to speak about it.

  1. there are some places with that, not in main cities but more in rural mexico, in Native American comunities down south.

  2. You should interview some people that just moved here from Mexico. That might help you with your paper.

  3. i was born in mexico and have never heard of arranged marriages there

  4. It's not something you'll see in the major cities (unless you count in orthodox jews which is fairly common even today believe it or not); but in small villages in places like Oaxaca or Guerrero it's something that's perfectly normal to those people. Heck, it's not unheard of poor parents that "sell" their daughters to suitors for 100 dollars.

It's more a thing that will happen in villages with a lot of poverty and uneducated people, usually in regions where spanish isn't the mother toungue.

Hasve I seen it myself? No, because it isn't something that happens in Mexico City (I do know vaguely girls that have gotten married here when they were 15 though).
