If so, what approximate date were you last 100% certain of this..

There are still several slot machines in many places in Las Vegas that pay coin.  They are being phased out in most casinos, but many casinos still offer some coin machines and a few smaller stores have only coin machines.    I got off work about 4 hours ago and the machines were still in play at that time.
