Does anybody know of any charitable organizations in the San Fernando Valley (CA) that would accept/need a donation of books? It has to be a group/organization that would not resell them. We have boxes of leftover holiday clearance books that need a home. Most of them are children's books, but some are for adults. I would be grateful for any information you could give me!

  1. The local United Way can direct you to homeless shelters that house moms and kids and to domestic violence shelters.   Kids and moms in shelters have had to leave behind a lot of things including books and books will encourage reading.  Another possibility is to call your local schools and ask to speak to the hiomeless students coordinator.   Your books can help make difference by opening the doors to reading for pleasure to kids who may never have owned a book of their own before.

  2. www.africanlibraryproject.org

I believe they are based out of CA

  3. Telephone the local public library and ask them.

Don't place restrictions on any charitable gift, it can be a real burden to accept 1000 useless items & be required to keep them. Some books, unfortunately, like old encyclopedias or Readers Digests, are suited only to the landfill.
