  1. Yep, you are right. It is weird. I bet there are some Melanesian or Polynesian  princess who have drowned or been eaten by sharks, though

  2. I am not sure about Royals eaten by sharks, but there were Royals that drowned.

In the tragedy of the White Ship, a 12th century vessel, many English Royals were drowned. Among them was William Adelin, the only legitimate son of King Henry I. Also perished were William & Richard, Henry I's illegitimate children. His daughter, The Countess of Chester, and Lucia-Mahaut of Blois, the King's niece, also perished.

Also among drowned Richard d'Avranches, second Earl of Chester, and his brother Otheur; Geoffrey Ridel; Walter of Everci; Geoffrey, Archdeacon of Hereford; the Countess of Perche, and many others.

This had pretty heavy consequences for England: England lost the heir. Herny's only legitimate child was now Marilda, who was married to Henry V, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. England never had the Salic laws that forbade women to inherit the Throne, so Henry made the Barons swear allegiance to Marilda, which they did.

However right after Henry I, his nephew Stephen usurped the Throne and England emerged into a Civil War. It continued for years, devastating the country, until Matilda and Stephen made an truce, according to which Stephen would remain King of England for life, but would be succeeded by Matilda's son, future Henry II.

  3. the Margaret maid of Norway was 7 traveling to Scotland to be married and queen and got a fever while on the sea and was sovery sick they made for teh closest land , her last breath was actually on the Orkney islands , is that close enough?

  4. As Diana Tais notes, Henry I's only legitimate son and heir, William Adelin (1103-1120), drowned when a drunken helmsman rammed the swiftest and most modern ship in the royal fleet into a rock in the English Channel as an an intoxicated party of aristocrats made their way from Normandy to England, an incident known as "The Diaster of the White Ship".

According to C. Warren Hollister, in The Making of England, William's death "threw the royal succession into a state of chaos" (113).  Although Henry had his barons swear allegiance to his daughter Matilda and her husband Geoffrey of Anjou, who produced a grandson and heir, upon Henry's death, they refused to submit to the rule of Count Geoffrey. Consequently, Henry's nephew, Stephenn of Blois, seized the throne.

Of course, as Shakespeare tells it, George, the Duke of Clarence, and brother of Edward IV, drowned in a butt of Malmsey.
