My granddaughter is out of school till August 18. She is a good student, esp. in reading, animal lover, and is interested in a clean environment.

  1. http://www.peninsulahumanesociety.org/vo...

I found this from craigslist.com, which probably has some other activities or connections she can use.

  2. Maybe you can ask the community library, they seem to have work for students, and library is a good environment for kids.

But I don't know if 14 is too young to work there, but they can at least give you some suggestions for local opportunities of volunteering.

  3. In my community the local veterinary clinic takes on young volunteers to help walk dogs and provide other forms of care for sick and injured animals.  It can include some cleaning up, but the child would be exposed to some really interesting things as well, and it sounds like it would fit well with her interest in animals.  Not only that, it'll look good on her resume in the future, and not only if she decides to apply to vet school!
