Do you know of anyone who performs legitimate exorcisms in the United States?

Thanks for your answers so far. Here are some additional details.

I perform house clearings in Canada, but recently received an email from someone living in North Carolina who has a friend who appears to be possessed. After having a phone conversation with the women, it does appear to me to be a legitimate case. However, as mentioned, I deal in hauntings, I am not an expert on possession, nor do I perform exorcists.

I know of a priest in Canada who performs exorcists, but I don't know of anyone who legimately performs them in the USA.

I was hoping that by posting this question on yahoo that someone might be able to recommend a person to me that I could then forward to these women to consult with.

Thanks again for your answers, I appreciate your help. :)

  1. If you truly believe that you are involved in a case needing exorcism, you should consult your priest.

Technically, any Roman Catholic priest can perform an exorcism ... if he has the authorization of the bishop for each case.  This is very rare, it being presumed that the victim is actually suffering from mental or physical illness.  Some other christian churches also practice exorcism, with various degrees of caution.  Pentecostal denominations conduct it almost routinely.

Other religions such as Judaism (debatable), Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Shinto and others have some form of exorcism rituals.

Sikhs, I am told, do not believe in exorcism.

  2. LDS (Mormon) elders can do exorcisms but are rarely asked to the procedure is basicaly the same one Christ used.

the words "In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Melcezdick preisthood which I hold, Evil spirits begone."

That's it. Any LDS Missionary can do it but may wish to consult higher church authorities first if he has any questions or doubts.

  3. go see whacko jacko

  4. No.

  5. There are many people who can do exorcisms through many different traditions, you just need to contact the people in the religious tradition that you are most comfortable with. My only question is: Is the situation a posession or a haunting?  The procedures are different for each of these issues. If there are spirits arround that you don't want evicted through the exorcism process such as guardians and teachers, I would reccommend avoiding the greater majority of christian exorcists as they eliminate all spirits just to get rid of one disruptive one.

  6. no body i know of

  7. Yes, they are called divorce judges.

  8. Yes there is people who know what they are doing , and im not talking about university doctors and teams who want to study it . Im talking about strong beleivers In God and know the power of Christ Jesus name . if u want to go to a catholic cause u are one thats fine . But i would recommend Penticostals , and non denominational churches . talk with the pastors . I don;t know the situation . but if its serious enough they will know what to do . They can be found in ur local phone books for church listings . God Bless .

  9. The Catholic church will, I think they have to make sure it legitimate first. Call your local priest.

  10. Yes I do. He's a priest  with a very interesting life story.  Are you asking just in general or do you need help?

  11. I can honestly say I do not know..But I do believe in this sort of thing and maybe instead of seeking out answers here, you should pray to the man upstairs for guidance on this matter and maybe seek the opinion if an actual honest, non-judging priest in your area of residence......

  12. Only the Catholic church and only under dire conditions. The old church wasn't so hard to convince but the now modern church seems to avoid even the question. Some people claim to be able to but you wont find a true exorcist without hard hunting.. they wont be listed in the phone book. Do you need one? That's wasn't meant to be funny.. its a real question with real concern. I am not an exorcist.. but if you are having issues..be care full how you mend it.

  13. I remember a news story a few years ago saying that the Catholic Dioceses of Chicago had appointed a cleric specifically to act as an exorcist.  The story was run as a bit of odd human interest--as in, hey, they may have gotten in wrong--but you may want to check with clerics in Chicago if your looking for someone specific.  You may also want to read "The Fortean Times."  Every once in a while, they run a story about such a thing, and one of their affiliate mag's supposedly found the "possessed" boy (judged to be a fraud) that was the inspiration for The Exorcist.

  14. Father Merin

  15. Legitimate exorcism = oxymoron.

I can't believe this is under "alternative science."  It is no kind of science.

I will concede, though, that many practicioners are "honest liars", in that they do not even know that what they do is ultimately a psychological procedure, not a supernatural one.
