  1. you have no money but you have a computer and Internet..........i don't buy your story

Hey John666....I'm sure she will give you her western union account number....get you check book out or put your money where your mouth is!

  2. M v.

That is not a fair statement to make, especially if you are unfamiliar with the games officials, including the police, can play to get money out of foreigners (or Filipinos)in the Philippines..No money does not mean really without a cent. In the Philippines it does not cost much for an hour at an internet cafe, only about 35 US cent.,also, there are plenty of people and organisations that have 24 hour broadband and might let someone receive and send mail.

    fggf g,

You say you are Italian. The police are not allowed to confiscate your passport. That is the property of the Italian government.I have just spoken to the Italian Embassy in London. They have told me that if you can prove you are Italian by some other means, and are without funds, your Manila embassy can contact your relatives in Italy on your behalf so they can transfer some money to you. Maybe you have La carta d'identità, or La Carta

d’Identit Elettronica (CIE), with you? You should return to your Embassy and make sure you speak to an Italian consul. One of the most important jobs of the Consul is to assist distressed citizens. The Consul can get your passport back too. Although the Consul cannot give you legal advice, you should be able to obtain a list of lawyers that can be trusted to help you.The Consul may know of a charitable organisation that can get you free legal advice or representation. One may be a Catholic group, or a women's group such as GABRIELLA, the famous Philippines organisation for the protection and advancement of women, which is led by a lady lawyer. Details below. Also, your Consul may also be able to put you in touch with a prominent resident Italian businessman who might be prepared to assist you. They do exist.

I am giving you the link below to the Philippine -Italian Association. You can make an enquiry on their website, and may find help there too.

You have not said what you are charged with. That makes it difficult to advise you about your legal prospects.what I can tell you is that there are thousands of lawyers in Manila. Many are very good and there are expensive specialists in every field of law. Most of the rest are not good at all. They don't have a regular income, and are just sitting waiting for someone to give them money to represent them, and will delay and drag out any case to provide themselves with a steady income as they will want money for everything they do, every bit of paper they produce, and above all, every court appearance they make. You can also get all sorts of peoiple recommending lawyers to you, because they will want to get a 'commission' from the lawyer, who of course will just be handing over a bit of your money. Not a very good picture, which is why I am suggesting the above.

Not all Filipino lawyers are bad.I know some good ones that are not. Unfortunately they are my close friends, and if I got into trouble, they will be under obligation to help me get out of it, just as I would be obliged to help them, but for others they would be expensive, so they are no use to you.I am sorry I cannot help you more.

If you can post some details of the charges against you, someone might be able to give you more help. This board is anonymous so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

  3. Go to City Hall in your area and ask where is the PAO office maybe they can help you eventhough your not a Philippines Citizen. I'm sorry for what happen to you. And the police are not allowed to get your passport cuz that is your personal property. It is against the law. Or go to your Embassy and tell them what happen to you there are the one who can help you most.

Hope everything will work out to you.

  4. My uncle, Fortunato Lira, is an attorney.  He lives in Quezon City.

  5. It is the job of any consulate to assist its citizens who have difficulties while they are in a foreign country.  Certainly they can refer you to an attorney!  You, of course, will have to pay for it.  The consulate can help you transfer funds from your home country or from your family.
