she is a popular writer.  chocolat is probably her most famous novel which was made into a movie in 2000 starring juliette binoche and johnny depp.  most of her work has as foody theme and most seem to be set in france.  im currently reading five segments of an orange which is also supposed to be very good. (i only started it yesterday so i cant comment yet)

i met her a couple of months ago at a literary festival.  she was very nice.

Yes she is very popular in England.

She hails from my home town of Barnsley, in the south of Yorkshire,northern England.  Before becoming a novellist, she was a teacher.

She is particularly famous for a book called chocolat.  About a woman who starts a chocolate business in a small village in France.  This chocolate has mystical powers that transforms the lives of those that eat it.

It was made into a feature film afew years ago.
