Question:

Do you know the history of global warming?

Al Gore was a solid c to d student at Harvard receiving a D in natural sciences 6 “Man’s place in nature” (his closest course to global warming) and a C in natural sciences 118 (his only other science course). He flunked every one of his Vanderbilt Bible College courses which is a remarkable feat and a couple of years later flunked out of Vanderbilt Law School which is remarkable considering Gore was son of a 3 term senator. How does Gore chide highly educated climate experts without blushing?

Maurice Strong was (is)an energy trader who tried to steal then sell the people of Colorado their own water. He is the Godfather of the Kyoto Protocal. He controlled the Earth Summit that gave birth to the notion of global warming. He wrote the treaty (with Gorbachev). He decided the winners and losers. He is in China to avoid corruption charges involving several UN programs, like Oil for Food. He is avoiding jail. He's gone a long way since his backroom politics days in Canada.

  1. Yes I do, in great detail.  Clearly you don't.

Global warming was first proposed as a concept in the late 1800s by a physicist, based on the known properties of CO2.

Starting in the 70s, scientists began to see data which indicated it was happening.  Throughout the 80s an the 90s, the data became simply overwhelming, and most all scientists accepted global warming as real.

Somewhere along there Gore heard about the science and started telling people about it.  But he didn't do any science, and has absolutely nothing to do with the proof that global warming is real.

    Much less Maurice Strong.

When deniers try to use silly arguments about these people as "proof" about global warming, they're simply admitting the science is dead against them.

A good history is here, from the American Institute of Physics.

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/

The answer below complaining about biofuels shows ignorance of basic science.  The CO2 that comes from biofuels was extracted from the air by plants a very short time ago.  Putting it back is no big deal.  It's called the "carbon cycle".  Digging up fossil fuels the carbon cycle buried millions of years ago, and burning them real fast, is a very big deal.  Scientists have used "isotopic ratios" to PROVE that's why CO2 levels are increasing.

Also, most of the scientists who ay global warming is real do NOT get funding for global warming.  They include most members of:

The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

But they do know good science when they see it.

EDIT - There are a few "skeptics".  But their numbers are relatively small.

"The fact that the community overwhelmingly supports the consensus is evidenced by picking up any copy of Journal of Climate or similar, any scientific program at the meetings, or simply going to talk to scientists. I challenge you, if you think there is some un-reported division, show me the hundreds of abstracts that support your view - you won't be able to. You can argue whether the consensus is correct, or what it really implies, but you can't credibly argue it doesn't exist."

    NASA's Gavin Schmidt

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know.

Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

    Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

  2. Here is the history...

  3. Gore arrived at Harvard with a quite respectable 1355 SAT score.  I wonder what yours was?

But to get to the point of your question: Concerns about that issue were first raised by scientists over 50 years before Gore was born (so other than your own personal satisfaction at taking a pot-shot at Gore, his grades are completely irrelevant).  But back then they never imagined that modern society would emit the levels of greenhouse gases that we now emit.

Here's a site where people can learn about the real history of global warming, and the 100 year debate among scientists before they concluded on the now solid theory of AGW:

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/index...

If people would spend just 5 minutes at that site, their level of actual knowledge about the history of global warming would increase 10-fold.

  4. Don't be silly  - nobody is that clever!

  5. http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/...

This link goes to an article about the politicization of climate science, written by a scientific historian. The Maurice Strong angle sounds interesting - It wouldn't be surprising to find a  skilled con man at the center of this.

  6. The only smart people touting global warming are the ones getting the millions of dollars in grant money.  Yet, they make fun of oil companies.  What amazes me is that they have no proof and follow this rhetoric because it is popular and environmentally sound.  Yet biofuels put more CO2 in the atmosphere than fossil fuels ever could.  Anything organic that burns will give off CO2.  Funny how ten percent of the fuel must be ethanol or else.  That's what California says, yet what is the main product of fermentation...  CO2.  It seems so hypocritical that they say green but aren't quite all that.

  7. The issue you discuss here is the history of the politicization of Global Warming in the last decade or so, not the history of Global Warming itself.  That goes back more than a hundred years and has been studied impartially by Administrations of different political Parties up until the current Administration.

  8. It is cyclical and goes back to the start of the planet's evolution - billions of years. Records can go back many thousands of years based on examination of ice-core samples. The current cycle may have been accellerated by population growth and the activities encumbent on this and there is little doubt that pumping poisons into the atmosphere is not good, some scientists argue that solar flares are the major cause of global warming.

  9. the key to gores success(in addition to his family's political connections) can be found in this quote from Karl Krauss

"a demagogue tries to sound as stupid as his audience so that they will think they are as clever as he is"

this was type casting for Gore & obviously  took no special effort on his part.

  10. At least Al Gore knows enough to defer to the experts. You don't have to be an expert in a particular subject matter to ask the experts for the answers.

  11. I would love to see Bob admit that there are scientists who do not support the claims of "global warming."  You may be a "real" scientist and you may have drank the kool-aid.  But not everyone in your field agrees with you.

  12. I thought 'Global Warming" was first published by 'The Onion' and was thought to be true by the liberal media who isn't smart enough to get the joke.

  13. look outside you own country for a change!

i am starting to think tuba is right, you all have a crush on gore!
