My son who is 3 told us tonight that he sung this song at nursery today. We can't think of what it is.

Crying weeping all the day alone,

It's a great song. Not a traditional nursery rhyme so not sure where you will find it. It's also not a tune associated with other songs so can't describe that either.

It can be sung as sandy girl and the children sit in a circle with the sandy boy / girl sat in the middle looking sad. When they sing 'stand up sandy ...' the child stands in the middle and looks happy. Then when they sing 'choose the one' the child picks a friend and they dance together in the middle to the tra la las. It is then repeated with another child being the sandy boy / girl in the middle.

I have heard this before - i heard sandy 'girl' not boy. Don't know the full words though. I typed 'stand up sandy girl wipe your tears' into google and got various websites come up - sorry i cant do links but you could try it.

Children sit in a circle with a cushion (stone) in the middle. Someone is chosen to sit on the 'stone' and pretends to be sad and upset. They then pick a child and skip around together, then rejoining the circle.
