Go to this link for a very interesting read about the Coronation Stone beneath the throne. It is very informative.

  1. One of the four Glasgow University students who stole the Stone from Westminster Abbey at Christmas 1950 said afterwards that they had done all the planning of the theft in a pub called the Arlington.

In 1950 there was only one Arlington pub in the whole of Scotland. It is still there, at the corner of Arlington Street and Woodlands Road in Glasgow, about a mile from the University and 100 yards from where I lived at the time.

I am not often in Glasgow these days, but on 7th September 2007 I was, and I re-visited the Arlington pub. They now have a large stone with two attached metal rings displayed behind a glass screen in one wall. A copy of a newspaper article beside it claims that the students brought it there after stealing it from Westminster, that the one returned to Westminster was a copy, and the one left in the pub was only discovered many years later when they dismantled some old boxed-in seats. Strangely enough, along with this rather dubious tale, the article does not mention the pub's much better-authenticated link with the Stone during the planning of the theft.
