Do you know the title of this children's book (description inside)?

Question

I read it in the 5th grade but forgot the title.

It was about this boy and his sister living in the woods waiting for their father. There's this man who's silent and it turns out later his tongue had been cut out by this man who also caught the boy's father in a animal trap. In the end, the boy goes to kill the man but finds out that he died from starvation as the man had a wound in the leg and couldn't go hunting.

I seem to remember another book, too, about a kid living alone in the wilderness, but I can't remember that title.  Our 5th grade teacher used to read aloud adventure books like this all the time!  :)

EDIT: I remembered the other book; it was Sign of the Beaver.  But I dunno if that's the one either.  The only other thing I can think of is that Gary Paulsen has a book called Hatchet, and he has other adventure-type books, too, so maybe it's one of his.  You might call or drop by the local library as librarians can do these kind of "what book is this?" questions (I worked in a library, and where I worked they were glad to help with this kind of thing!).  Good luck in finding it!
