Book Review in People Magazine???

Ok, I remember reading a book review for a memoir in People Magazine around a month ago, maybe. But I can't remember the name.

It was a memoir about a woman whose mother was very egotistical and beautiful, but also abusive to her while she was growing up.

I remember something like that her mother introduced her to drugs or alcohol or something?

Anyway, I know it's a needle in a haystack, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about I would be very grateful! And for those of you who care, there would of course be a "Best Answer". Yay!

If its the one where the mother beat her with the wire hangers because they weren't padded, its Mommy Dearest.  It is also a movie.
