  1. Yes. It is the turning away of wrath of God by an offering. For the Christian, propitiation was the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. It turned away the wrath of God so that He could pass "over the sins previously committed," (Rom. 3:25). The Father sent His Son Jesus to be the propitiation, or sacrifice for all.

    But you already knew that...

  4. ***propitiation: 'In 1 John 2:2; 4:10, Christ is called the "propitiation for

our sins." Here a different Greek word is used (hilasmos).

Christ is "the propitiation," because by his becoming our

substitute and assuming our obligations he expiated our guilt,

covered it, by the vicarious punishment which he endured.

[ John  3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John  3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil!_]
