It's a wire thingy, with like the end that you plug into a headphone jack on both ends...

Have any idea what it's for?

For connecting two devices to each other.

Some headphone jacks on stereos, MP3 players, etc have a smaller plug verses the standard size. You use that to be able to connect headphones with a standard plug into the electronic item that has the smaller headphone jack.

say you had an mp3 player

well u use that cord to plug the mp3 player into select stereos that have a "line in" jack or hole

alot of boom boxes have it

but you can connect two mp3 players or cd players or anything

the sound on the mp3 player travels to the stereo or boom box through that cord to play music on the  speakers :)
