Do you know what your local and state and federal government employees earn?

Do you think that they earn more or less then people in the private sector with equivalent education and experience?

Do you think that the information re: how much is paid for each government job should be readily available?

What do you think about a website that would post the salaries for government jobs?

Yes they are at a pay scale a bit above the private sector. The main difference is the job security they have as well as the retirement.

No, I dont have a clue and I like the idea of having a site that tells you what each job pays and what the job is for several different reasons.

You can find this information out fairly easily just by sending a Freedom of Information Act request to the agency for which you need information.

Contrary to the previous poster, most government employees make less than the private sector, except for highly unskilled workers. I worked for the State for five years as a senior computer programmer. I made about $70K a year and there are no bonuses, incentives or stock options. I left to work in the private sector now and make about $50K more. Doctors who work for the State, such as in prison or psychiatric hospitals make about $100K or more less than those in the private sector.

No. But I'm sure it's more than I make....or more than anyone in the private sector makes for similar jobs. Plus, government bureaucrats, employees, elected officials and appointed politicians always get superior benefits and pensions.

And, as you notice in any local, state or federal government office, the employees don't work nearly as hard as their peers in the private sector. And, it's almsot impossible to fire them!

What bothers me about this is that these people are all supposed to be 'public servants'!! why do servants make more than their masters??  -RKO-  07/13/08
